Against the Tide – Personal-use Digital Download

The Seven Sisters rise above a rough Sussex sea as the last light of the day catches the cliffs, water and weathered groynes below.

Photographed by Sharon Maskery, Against the Tide captures the coast at one of those brief moments when the low evening light changes everything. The familiar chalk cliffs are softened by warm light in the distance, while the movement of the sea and the dark lines of the groynes give the foreground a much stronger, more immediate character.

There is plenty of drama in the scene, but the colour remains restrained and natural – warm gold across the water, deep shadow through the timber and the pale mass of the cliffs beyond.
