The Sun Sets on Brighton's West Pier captures one of those moments. The enormous setting sun appears to rest directly upon the skeletal remains of Brighton's historic West Pier, silhouetting its intricate ironwork against an intense Sussex sky. Golden light floods across the sea beneath the pier, while the dark structure stands in dramatic contrast to the burning orange horizon. It is an image of opposites: strength and fragility, history and nature, still water and blazing light. What makes this photograph particularly special is that the scene is real. The position of the sun, the colour of the sky and its remarkable alignment with the pier were not digitally invented or generated by artificial intelligence. Sharon Maskery was there when the elements came together and captured the moment as it happened — a few fleeting seconds of Sussex light preserved forever. For anyone who knows Brighton, the West Pier carries memories of its own. Even in ruin, its unmistakable silhouette remains one of the most evocative landmarks on the Sussex coast. This photograph captures that familiar structure in a way that may never be repeated in precisely the same light again. Displayed in a living room, bedroom, hallway or office, The Sun Sets on Brighton's West Pier creates an immediate focal point. Its rich gold and orange tones bring warmth to a room, while the architectural silhouette gives the image enough drama to command attention from across the space. Created from an original photograph by Sharon Maskery for Sussex Sea & Sky, this artwork celebrates authentic photography: real places, real light and real moments captured as they happened. Bring a remarkable moment from the Brighton coastline into your home — not a scene imagined by a computer, but a moment witnessed, photographed and preserved. Part of the Sussex Sea & Sky collection of original coastal photography, celebrating the landscapes, seascapes and ever-changing light of the Sussex coastline.

Personal-use digital download: £1.99.
